The vast majority of CBD companies buy their oils from large wholesalers offering low-cost CBD oil extracted from hemp grown all around Europe and the USA. The ‘Bio Mass’ – large quantities of remaining plant material after the flowers and seeds have been removed – is used to make this low-quality product. The end user has no idea where the cannabis plants were grown, in what soil and what cultivation methods were used. What’s worse, the actual CBD distillate is passed on between middle companies who buy and trade unfinished products. In other words, people who don’t care about anything but making a profit.

The benefit to these companies is an endless supply at low prices. The benefit to the horse owner is not so great, the process results in lower quality oils that are not certified organic, with no guarantee of a responsible ‘seed-to-bottle’ process.

The cannabis plant is unusually responsive to its environment.

It’s known as a phytomediator  – which makes it one of the most efficient plants on the planet at attracting influences from the soil around it. As an example of how good it is, after the Chernobyl disaster it was used by farmers to suck the toxic compounds from the contaminated earth.

What that means is that if there’s anything impure in the soil, it will find it – and take it on board. This is the single biggest reason to insist on organic cultivation. The extraordinary power of medicinal cannabis is intimately related to its delicacy – so the purer the soil, the more careful the cultivation, the better able it is to have the desired effect.
