Why Do Horses Absorb CBD Oil Better?

It all has to do with a horse’s metabolic rate. Research backed by veterinarians has shown that a horse’s metabolism rate is very slow. What this means is that when given CBD oil, a horse is likely to metabolise it much more slowly and effectively. This means that it takes much less CBD to treat an entire horse effectively than one would think. Although this fact is interesting, it also greatly benefits the horse owner so that they do not waste CBD oil by giving a horse more than what is needed.

Some things to understand first about our Equine CBD Oil.

Our 20% Equine CBD Contains:

10mg of actual CBD per drop. As mentioned above, the starting dosage for a horse is 40mg.

This would mean that 4 droplets of CBD would be enough to get started.

Example: A horse who has never taken CBD Oil before and weighs between 500kg to 1000kg (1100 lbs. to 2200 lbs.) would only need 4 droplets of CBD oil per day. The droplets could be applied all together in one dose or, split into 2 separate dosing times for each 24 hour period. If split into two separate dosing times, 2 droplets should be applied twice a day.

Proper Equine CBD Administration

Before we explain the amount of CBD oil to start with for your horse. It is important to know HOW to apply the CBD oil for maximum absorption and for the safety of the horse.

Our CBD oil tinctures come in special glass that preserve the product and protect it from UV light. To prevent any injury to the horse, we recommend that you apply the CBD oil drops to your finger and rub it onto the horse’s gums.

Step by Step Dosing Guide for Equine CBD Oil

Step 1: Determine your initial baseline daily dosage. Suggested starting dose of 40mg (4 droplets) of CBD daily.

Step 2: Establish the incremental (step) dosage you will use to slowly raise the daily dosage level for each step if needed. Suggested increase of 20mg (2 droplets) per step.

Step 3: Start administering the CBD at the daily baseline dosage for a full 7 days (40mg daily). Pay attention to any changes in your horse’s symptoms or condition and document. The 7 days gives the CBD time to build an accumulative effect.

Step 4: After 7 days at your baseline dosage, if you are not receiving the desired results, then increase the dosage by one step (20mg) to create a new baseline dosage.

Step 5: For the next 3 days (Day 8 – 10), administer the new increased dosage (40mg + 20mg). Pay attention to any changes in your horse’s symptoms or condition and document.

Step 6: Repeat. After 3 days of administering at the new dosage level, if you still have not obtained the desired results then continue to raise the dosage by 20mg every 3 days until you find the minimum effective dose that relieves symptoms. This may take several steps, be patient and stick to the process. For example, if your animal’s minimum effective dose turned out to be 120mg it would take 19 days using the stepwise dosing procedure to dial-in the most effective dosage.

Step 7: Refine the dosage. Once you find the dose that works for your animal, you can refine the dosage by reversing the process and lowering the dosage by small 5mg steps in 3 day increments to dial in a more exact dosage.
